Synopsis
Born (2024) is a 2D experimental animation that explores the psychological and physical dimensions of ”routine“ reproductive trauma through body metaphors. Set on a surreal planet with reproductive functions, the film uses nightmare-like imagery to portray the inner and outer changes associated with pregnancy and childbirth, evoking emotional resonance and advocating for social awareness. Inspired by surrealist aesthetics, Born employs dynamic textures, bodily metamorphosis, and rapid flashing frames. Drawing on trauma theory and captivity narratives, the animation visualizes how traumatic memories manifest and persist within the body. Distorted limbs, umbilical cord, and fluid organs create a haunting atmosphere, expressing a complex emotional landscape shaped by confinement, rupture, and transformation. Rather than re-enacting specific events, Born attempts to visualize psychological pain — translating internal experiences into visceral imagery. It opens space for expressing the unspeakable, using animation to give form to what is often hidden or dismissed.By combining bodily symbolism with emotional storytelling, the film invites viewers to reflect on how society perceives, supports, or neglects these deeply embodied realities, and opens space for more compassionate, meaningful conversations around reproductive emotional burdens.
